Kerala Government Pledges Action on J.B. Commission Recommendations for Marginalised Christian Communities

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, June 6, 2026: The Kerala government has assured the implementation of the recommendations of the J.B. Commission Report, which examined the socio-economic challenges faced by several Christian communities in the state, including Latin Catholics, Dalit Christians, fisherfolk and high-range farmers.

The assurance was given by V. D. Satheesan during a meeting with a delegation of the Kerala Region Latin Catholic Council (KRLCC) in Thiruvananthapuram. The report, prepared after an extensive study, proposes measures aimed at addressing long-standing socio-economic disadvantages experienced by these communities.

During the discussions, the Chief Minister also assured the delegation that the land rights issues affecting residents of Munambam would be addressed through appropriate legal measures, offering hope to families seeking a permanent resolution to the dispute.

The KRLCC delegation was led by Bishops Sebastian Thekkathecheril, Selvister Ponnumuthan and Selvarajan Dasan. Other members included KRLCC Vice-President Joseph Jude, General Secretary Jiju George Arakkathara, Secretary Patrick Michael, and Kerala Latin Catholic Association President Sherry J. Thomas. Legislators T. J. Vinod and M. Vincent also participated in the meeting.

As part of their efforts to advance the concerns of the Latin Catholic community, the delegation also met with senior ministers, including Ramesh Chennithala, A. P. Anilkumar, Shibu Baby John and C. P. John.

The KRLCC representatives presented a range of issues affecting the Latin Catholic community across Kerala, urging the government to adopt targeted measures to improve livelihoods, safeguard rights and promote equitable development. The meetings were viewed as a significant step in strengthening dialogue between the Church leadership and the state government on matters affecting vulnerable sections of the Christian community.
