Delhi Catholics Gather for 9-Day Novena and Great Pentecost 2026 Vigil

Delhi, May 28, 2026: The Delhi Charismatic Service of Communion (DCSC) organised its annual 9-Day Novena and Eucharistic Adoration in preparation for The Great Pentecost 2026 from 15 to 23 May at Jeevan Jyoti Ashram, Burari. Conducted in both Hindi and Malayalam, the prayer gathering brought together Catholics from across Delhi for a time of spiritual renewal, worship, and reflection.

More than 40 youth and elders participated in the daily novena, which was led by Fr Thomas Puthenthayil, Fr Maria Arokiyam, Fr Gladius Massi, and Fr Anil Raj. The prayer sessions included praise and worship, Eucharistic Adoration, confession, and the Novena to the Holy Spirit, concluding each day with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Members from Mayur Vihar Phase 3, Palam Parish, Dilshad Garden, and Youth United for Christ (YU4C), Delhi, coordinated various sessions throughout the novena. Participants described the nine days as a meaningful period of prayer and preparation ahead of Pentecost.

The celebrations reached their peak during The Great Pentecost Night Vigil, held from 9:30 pm on 23 May until 5:30 am on 24 May. More than 200 faithful from different parts of Delhi attended the overnight vigil.

The programme began with the Holy Rosary in Hindi and Malayalam, followed by a series of talks focused on the role of the Holy Spirit in Christian life. Mr James K.A. reflected on the impact of the Holy Spirit during the Delhi Renewal movement of the 1980s and 1990s. Ajin Joseph spoke on “Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the Pentecost Experience of the Catholic Saints,” while Sujeet Ekka highlighted the importance of regular prayer meetings in sustaining spiritual renewal. Malayalam and Hindi translations were also provided to ensure wider participation.

Throughout the night, praise and worship sessions were led by the Emmause Prayer Group and David’s Harp, the youth band of YU4C Delhi. The Burning Bush audio-visual team also presented dance performances based on songs dedicated to the Holy Spirit, adding to the atmosphere of prayer and celebration.

One of the central moments of the vigil was the Eucharistic Adoration session for Baptism in the Holy Spirit, led by Ajin along with Fr Anil Raj and Fr Thomas Puthenthayil. The vigil concluded with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr Thomas, with Fr Anil serving as co-celebrant. Hymns during the Mass were sung by the Rhapsody Choir.

Participants described the gathering as a powerful experience of healing, encouragement, and renewal. For many in the Catholic community in Delhi, The Great Pentecost 2026 became not only a celebration of faith, but also a reminder of the unity and spiritual strength found in prayer and fellowship.
