Christians in Mysore Mark Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Mysore, Jan 28, 2026:

Christians from various denominations across Mysore came together to observe the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2026, offering a strong public witness to shared faith, fellowship, and common mission.

Guided by Bishop Francis Serrao, SJ, of Mysore, the faithful reflected on the theme, “There is one Body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling” (Ephesians 4:4), along with the sub-theme “Light from Light for Light,” which underscored the Christian call to be bearers of Christ’s light in the world.

Prayer services were held over eight consecutive days at different churches in the city, with each Christian denomination taking turns to host and lead the common worship.

The observance began with the Unity Octave at CRI–Kripalaya, Bogadi, and continued at the Catholic Church, the Church of South India (CSI), the Orthodox Church, the Mar Thoma Church, the Methodist Church, the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, and concluded at the Pentecostal Church.

Each gathering reflected the spiritual heritage of the host denomination while fostering ecumenical dialogue, fellowship, and prayerful communion among participants.

Hundreds of faithful joined clergy and church leaders in praying for unity, peace, and mutual respect, reaffirming that Christian unity is grounded in a shared baptism and faith rather than institutional uniformity.

The Week of Prayer concluded as a powerful expression of ecumenical commitment in Mysore, highlighting the churches’ resolve to walk together as one Body and one Spirit in Christ.
