CCBI Releases Three Rituals

Bangalore, 11 February 2026: The CCBI has released the following rituals: (1) Institution of Catechists, Lectors, and Acolytes; (2) Order of Baptism of Children; and (3) Order of Christian Initiation of Adults. The rituals were released by Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, in the presence of Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, President of the CCBI; Archbishop Peter Machado, Vice President of the CCBI; Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha, Chairman of the Commission for Liturgy; Rev. Dr. Stephen Alathara, Deputy Secretary General of the CCBI and Mr. Peter Purdue, a theologian from Great Britain.

The Ritual for the Institution of Catechists, Lectors, and Acolytes and the Order of Baptism of Children were approved by the CCBI at its 36th Plenary Assembly held on 3 February 2025 and received the Decree from the Holy See on 21 January 2026. These rituals shall become obligatory from 7 June 2026.

The CCBI approved the Ritual of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults at its 31st Plenary Assembly held on 14 January 2019. The Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments granted the Decree on 21 January 2026. This ritual shall also become obligatory from 7 June 2026.
