CBCI Expresses Solidarity With Flood-Affected People of Punjab

New Delhi, September 4, 2025: The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) has expressed deep solidarity with the people of Punjab and Haryana, who are grappling with the worst floods in decades, affecting over 3.5 lakh residents across 23 districts. In a press statement released today, the CBCI stated that the thoughts and prayers of its member bishops are with the victims and their families during this time of profound suffering. It also urged Catholics across India to join in prayer and provide relief support to those suffering from extensive loss of life, property, and livelihoods.

The floods, caused by relentless rains and swollen rivers, have devastated the region’s agricultural sector, submerging more than 3.7 lakh acres of crops. Thousands of families have been displaced, lacking shelter, food, and clean water, and face a long road to recovery.

In its press note, the CBCI also called on all Catholics across India to pray for the strength and resilience of those affected and for the safety of rescue workers actively engaged in relief efforts.

The Conference also appealed to Christians and people of goodwill across the country to provide material assistance, including food, clean water, medicine, and shelter. The organisation recommended channelling donations through Caritas India, the humanitarian arm of the Catholic Church in India. Caritas has already activated its networks to coordinate relief to ensure efficient distribution to those most in need. Donations can be sent to:
