Cardinal Ferrão urges harmony, environmental care in Ganesh Chaturthi message

Goa, September 13, 2026: Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão has extended greetings to the Hindu community in Goa on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, calling for greater communal harmony, peace and care for the environment.

In his message, Cardinal Ferrão, Auxiliary Bishop Simião Fernandes and the Catholic faithful of the Archdiocese conveyed their “warmest and most joyful greetings” to the Hindu community across Goa.

The Cardinal reflected on values associated with Ganesh Chaturthi, including the removal of obstacles, the pursuit of wisdom and respect for creation. He said these values have particular relevance to Goa’s social and ecological concerns.

“As we look around our beloved Bhangarachem Gõy (Golden Goa), these values have never been more vital,” Cardinal Ferrão said.

He called on people of different communities to work together to promote peace, uphold human dignity and protect Goa’s natural and ecological heritage.

“United by the spirit of this Festival and a common concern for peace, let us continue to actively collaborate in safeguarding human dignity, protecting the natural beauty and the ecological heritage of our land, and nurturing harmony within our local communities,” he said.

Cardinal Ferrão concluded by wishing the Hindu community a happy, peaceful and meaningful Ganesh Chaturthi.
