CSST Launches Year-long Observance of Mother Teresa’s 125th Death Anniversary

Bengaluru, September 13, 2026: The Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa (CSST) commemorated the 124th death anniversary of their foundress, Servant of God Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima, with a Eucharistic celebration on September 12, marking the beginning of year-long observances leading up to her 125th death anniversary.

Held under the theme “Rooted Deep… Built Strong… Bearing Fruits,” the celebration reflected Mother Teresa’s spirituality of deep faith, prayer and selfless service, while highlighting the continuing mission of the CSST congregation.

The celebration recalled Mother Teresa’s life as one rooted in Christ and sustained by prayer and an intimate relationship with God. Her unwavering trust and courage enabled her to respond to her vocation and witness to the Gospel through service to others.

The CSST highlighted the ways her charism continues to shape its ministries, particularly in education, healthcare, service to the poor and vulnerable, pastoral and evangelising ministry, social development, formation and spiritual services.

Her vision extended beyond education to the care of the sick, poor, orphaned children, women and people marginalised by society. Through these ministries, the congregation seeks to promote human dignity, compassion, empowerment and transformation through faith and service.

The Entrance procession featured Sisters representing the congregation’s five Provinces and its centre. They carried symbols representing the Institute’s five principal ministries to the altar, while green branches symbolised life, hope, growth and the continuing mission of the CSST.

Archbishop Emeritus Francis Kallarackal presided over the celebration, which was attended by priests, Superior General Sr. Jose Lynette and her team, Provincials and their teams, Sisters from the five Provinces and the centre, CSST Associates and members of the Teresian family.

The 125th death anniversary observances were formally inaugurated through the solemn lighting of a lamp following the Entrance Hymn. Sr. Jose Lynette lit the lamp, symbolising Christ, the Light who guided Mother Teresa throughout her life and continues to illuminate the congregation’s mission.

The celebration called upon the CSST family to deepen its roots in God’s love, remain steadfast in its vocation and continue to bear fruits of grace through compassionate and transformative service.
