Cardinal Ferrão Highlights ‘The Chosen’s’ Global Impact at Asia Vision Summit

Penang, Malaysia | 1 December 2025: Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, President of the FABC and the CCBI, underlined the worldwide impact of The Chosen during the Holy Mass and homily at The Chosen Asia Vision Summit in Penang, Malaysia. He noted that the series has become a powerful force for evangelisation, touching millions of viewers around the world and gaining strong momentum across Asia.

The Cardinal placed strong emphasis on the role of storytelling in today’s mission of the Church. He praised The Chosen for opening “a global doorway to Christ,” and for helping viewers “rediscover not only the message of Christ, but the message that is Christ.” He said the series’ human and visually compelling style has drawn believers and non-believers closer to the Gospel.

A close collaborator of Pope Leo XIV, Cardinal Ferrão said the show has helped many people see the heart of the Gospel more vividly by portraying Jesus with warmth, compassion, and humanity. He noted that the thoughtful writing, strong performances, and cinematic quality of The Chosen allow viewers to understand the struggles and hopes of the disciples, making the story of Jesus feel present and personal.

He also expressed deep appreciation for the creators, actors, and production team for presenting the life of Christ with artistic honesty and respect for the Gospel. Their work, he said, carries the message of Christ into diverse cultures and languages across the world.

Cardinal Ferrão stressed that the series has grown into far more than a media project. It has become a genuine tool for evangelisation—awakening faith, inspiring conversion, and encouraging mission. The summit, he noted, reaffirmed that storytelling remains one of the most effective ways to open hearts to God.

He concluded by urging storytellers and media professionals to build bridges across Asia through creative work that leads people toward truth, hope, and faith. “Your work can guide searching hearts to Christ,” he said. “It can heal, inspire, and awaken belief.”

The Chosen Asia Vision Summit gathers Church leaders, communication experts, and creators to explore how digital storytelling can strengthen Christian witness across the continent.
