Cardinal Ferrão Sends FABC Congress Delegates on a “Another Way”

Penang, Malaysia 30 November 2025: At the closing ceremony of the Great Pilgrimage of Hope in Penang on 30 November, the First Sunday of Advent, Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, President of the FABC and the CCBI, commissioned the 773 delegates from 32 countries as “ambassadors to tell the story of Jesus in Asia.”

As the main celebrant at the concluding Mass, Cardinal Ferrão delivered a clear and moving call for the Church in Asia to return home “by a different way,” echoing the journey of the Magi. He said the days in Penang opened hearts, healed wounds and renewed the continent’s missionary spirit.

Drawing from the day’s readings, he urged delegates to walk in God’s light, build peace, and guard unity in their communities. He reminded them that the mission now requires courage, vigilance and a deep personal renewal. “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ,” he said, inviting all to witness through compassion, dialogue and service.

The Cardinal pointed to God’s presence in the unexpected, among migrants, the poor, interreligious friendships and the hopes of young people. He encouraged the delegates to return home with fresh vision and bold commitment.

He closed with a strong appeal for a “different way” rooted in synodality, listening and joyful proclamation. “Your pilgrimage has become a mission,” he declared, sending delegates forth with renewed hope for Asia.

During the ceremony, Cardinal Ferrão also honoured Bishop George Palliparambil, SDB, Chairman of the FABC Office for Evangelization, Mr. Manjo Sunny, its Executive Secretary, and Cardinal Sebastian Francis of Penang for their service to the Congress.

The Great Pilgrimage of Hope ends, but its call continues. The Church in Asia now steps forward with a united heart, ready to share Christ’s story with renewed faith and fresh courage.
