Vellore, December 18, 2025 — Bishop Ambrose P. said the true purpose of a church lies in how it helps the faithful live the Gospel in their daily lives, during the blessing of the Our Lady of Good Health Church at Sri Lankan Mugam, Thachur, under Pathiyavaram Parish, on Thursday.
Speaking after blessing the church and altar, the Bishop said a church should be a place where worship leads to commitment, unity and service. He told the congregation that the building would have meaning only if it becomes a space that nurtures prayer, strengthens relationships within the community and inspires care for others.
He said Gospel values must move beyond rituals and be reflected in family life, social responsibility and concern for the vulnerable. Referring to the patronage of Our Lady of Good Health, the Bishop called on the faithful to seek her intercession and remain united in faith and purpose.
The Bishop also stressed the need for cooperation within the parish, saying unity among parishioners was essential for sustaining the life and mission of the Church. He urged them to take shared responsibility for the spiritual and pastoral life of the parish.
Diocesan priests, religious sisters, parish representatives and faithful from nearby villages took part in the ceremony. The blessing marked the completion of the new church building, which will serve the pastoral and worship needs of Catholics in the area.
Parishioners expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the construction of the church and acknowledged the support and guidance received from the diocese.
The Our Lady of Good Health Church is expected to function as a centre for worship and parish activities for the local Catholic community.
