Christmas Celebration Cancelled Amid RSS Anthem Demand in Kerala

Kerala, Dec 18, 2025: An official Christmas programme for postal employees in Kerala was abruptly cancelled this year after a reported demand to include an RSS-associated anthem during the celebrations, leading to objections from staff and the withdrawal of the event.

According to reports, the Bharatiya Postal Administrative Offices Employees Union (BPAOEU), which is affiliated with the RSS-linked Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, sought the inclusion of “RSS Ganageetham” in Christmas celebrations planned at post offices across the state. The programmes were scheduled for December 18.

Employees objected to the proposal and refused to sing the song. Following this resistance, the official Christmas celebrations did not take place, sparking widespread concern and anger.

The incident prompted political intervention, with CPI(M) Member of Parliament John Brittas writing to Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on December 17. In his letter, Brittas emphasised that Christmas in India is an expression of faith, inclusiveness, and goodwill rather than merely a cultural observance.

He cautioned against the politicisation of official religious events and urged the minister to ensure that such functions are not subjected to ideological imposition. Brittas specifically requested that the reported demand to include RSS Ganageetham at the Kerala Circle Christmas celebration should not be accepted.
