Buxar, Bihar, September 22, 2025 -The CCBI Bible Commission hosted a Bible Mahotsav event on Saturday, September 20, at Sewadham, the pastoral centre of the Buxar diocese in Bihar. The event brought together pupils of classes VIII–XII from both deaneries of the diocese to celebrate the Word of God through competitions, prayer, and stage performances.
Bp. James Shekhar, Bishop of the Buxar Diocese, along with Fr. Charles Isaac, Vicar General of the Diocese, Fr. Bhaskar, Secretary of the CCBI Bible Commission, and numerous priests, sisters, animators, and children, actively participated in the event. The competitions during the event were judged by Rev. Fr. Victor P., recipient of the Kashi Ratan award and shrine in-charge of Hartmanpur; Sr. Harshita SRA; and Mrs. Swarnalata from the Varanasi Diocese.
The event opened with a solemn Bible procession, during which participants venerated Bibles in Hebrew, Greek, Hindi, and English. Attendees then actively engaged in Bible reading, prayer, and prayer dance, followed by nine competitions centred on the Jubilee theme, “Pilgrims of Hope”. Children participating in the competitions radiated energy, joy, and devotion, celebrating the Word of God in a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.
Bishop James Shekhar encouraged children to read, reflect, and pray on the Word of God, while Fr. Charles Isaac highlighted the grace of the Bible and inspired them toward priestly and religious vocations. Judge Fr. Victor shared his personal experiences of reading the Bible regularly and motivated the children through reflections and singing on Isaiah’s call narrative.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and prizes to winners of all the competitions, followed by a communal meal that embodied the joy of the Jubilee Year. Special appreciation was extended to Bishop Shekhar for his guidance, Fr. Bhaskar and his team for coordination, and Fr. Pratap’s team for seamless arrangements of the programme. In the words of St. Jerome, the day reminded everyone that “Ignorance of the Word of God is ignorance of Christ.”
