Bhopal Archdiocese Equips Parishes for Mission Month and World Mission Sunday

BHOPAL, August 25, 2026: The Archdiocese of Bhopal has begun preparations for Mission Month, Mission Week and World Mission Sunday 2026, with a one-day workshop bringing together parish mission coordinators, religious, catechists and mission volunteers to strengthen missionary outreach across parishes and institutions.

Organised by the Commission for Proclamation of the Archdiocese of Bhopal, the workshop was held on August 23 at Seva Sadan, Bhopal, under the theme, “One in Christ, united in mission.”

Raju Mathew served as the resource person, while Archbishop Durairaj of Bhopal participated throughout the programme and celebrated the Eucharist for the participants.

In his homily, the Archbishop urged participants to renew their commitment to the missionary vocation, describing the call to evangelisation as an invitation to “go and invite everyone to the banquet”. He encouraged them to proclaim the Gospel through prayer, personal witness, service and love.

A key focus of the workshop was a reflection on the Holy Father's message for World Mission Sunday 2026. The participants were encouraged to view missionary activity not merely as an annual programme but as a way of life rooted in Christ and expressed through joyful witness, service and outreach.

Sessions examined the significance of Mission Month, Mission Week and Mission Sunday and explored ways to make these observances occasions for sustained missionary engagement. Participants discussed strategies to deepen prayer, promote mission awareness and encourage wider participation in parish activities.

Practical sessions focused on resources, ideas and best practices that could be adapted to the needs of individual parishes. Participants were encouraged to involve children, young people, families and religious communities; organise catechesis and mission activities; reach out to people on the peripheries; share missionary testimonies; and make effective use of media and communication platforms.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of generosity towards missionary initiatives and greater collaboration among parish mission teams. Participants shared experiences from existing initiatives and were encouraged to draw up concrete plans for Mission Month, Mission Week and World Mission Sunday, involving the wider parish community.

The gathering emphasised that the Church's missionary responsibility belongs to the entire baptised community. Participants were encouraged to embrace their vocation as missionary disciples and become “Pilgrims of Hope” who walk together, reach out to others and share the joy of the Gospel.

The workshop was part of the Commission for Proclamation's efforts to equip parishes and institutions of the Archdiocese of Bhopal for a more prayerful, participatory and active observance of Mission Month, Mission Week and World Mission Sunday 2026.
