Bengaluru, March 29, 2026: In a compelling public expression of faith and fraternity, nearly 1,800 Christians from diverse denominations gathered in Bengaluru on Saturday for the “Salvation Run,” an ecumenical initiative centred on the theme, “I Belong to Jesus.” The event brought together youth, clergy, religious, and lay faithful in a shared celebration of unity that transcended denominational lines.
Praise and worship led by Worship Culture created a spiritually charged atmosphere, drawing participants into a collective expression of faith. The gathering featured a 3-kilometre walk and a 5-kilometre run, symbolising the Christian journey lived in unity and purpose.
Church leaders from various traditions were present, underscoring the importance of visible unity in the Body of Christ. Among them were Archbishop Peter Machado of Bengaluru, who also serves as Vice President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), and Bishop Emeritus Bernard Moras, both of whom affirmed the significance of such initiatives in fostering deeper Christian fellowship.
“This initiative is truly commendable. It will inspire many to live the teachings of Christ more deeply, foster unity among Christians, and strengthen our common witness,” Bishop Moras said. He further expressed hope that such efforts would extend to other parts of the country, including Delhi, enabling more people to encounter Christ through united Christian witness.
Speaking to Catholic Connect, organiser Elvis Joseph highlighted the strong participation, noting that approximately 1,800 believers registered for the event. He attributed its growth to divine providence and reaffirmed its mission of bringing Christians together as one in Christ.
“The Salvation Run is more than just an event—it is a faith enabler,” he said. “It calls each of us to step forward as stronger witnesses to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
Organisers observed that the scale and diversity of participation reflect a growing desire among Christians to move beyond divisions and embrace shared expressions of faith. Plans are already underway to take the initiative to the national capital, signalling a broader vision of fostering ecumenical collaboration across India.
More than a sporting event, the Salvation Run stood as a powerful sign of a Church striving for unity in mission—running together as one body in Christ, and bearing collective witness to the Gospel in contemporary society.
