Silchar, December 3, 2025 — Regional Family Commission of the North East India Regional Bishops’ Council conducted a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme in Silchar for 45 participants from across the Barak Region, aiming to equip leaders, establish a new Family Commission for the area and strengthen pastoral family ministry within the Diocese of Aizawl.
The Barak Valley, though part of the Diocese of Aizawl, differs significantly from mainland Mizoram in its social and cultural character. Recognising these distinct pastoral needs, the Diocese initiated the formation of a dedicated Family Commission for the region to offer focused support and structured outreach.
Sessions during the ToT addressed the aims and objectives of the Commission, its organisational structure, functional responsibilities and the range of activities it is expected to undertake. The programme was animated by Fr George Jarain, Regional Secretary of the Family Commission, and Mr Julius Nongdhar, who guided participants through training modules and planning discussions.
Participants concluded the gathering by outlining an action plan that prioritises the establishment of Parish Family Cells, leadership development programmes and regular Commission meetings to ensure coordinated pastoral engagement across the region. Sr Alisha Mawlong VSDB offered words of appreciation to close the event.
