Ranchi, March 2, 2026: A three-day awareness and training programme aimed at strengthening the Church’s response to human trafficking concluded at Jharna, Namkum, in Ranchi on February 28, bringing together 30 women religious from 22 congregations across North India.
Organised by Amrat Talitha Kum India, the initiative focused on Psycho–Socio–Spiritual Integration, Challenges, and Rejuvenation, equipping sisters engaged in anti-trafficking ministry with renewed capacity for sustained and compassionate service. Participants included those working directly with survivors of trafficking as well as those collaborating with Anti Human Trafficking Units and civil society organisations.
The programme highlighted the mission of the national network, which works against modern slavery in collaboration with the global Talitha Kum movement. Deliberations underscored the urgency of coordinated action among congregations to strengthen prevention, protection, rehabilitation, and advocacy initiatives.
Resource person Fr. Praful Bara of St. Albert’s College animated the sessions through interactive presentations and group reflections. He addressed the psychological and emotional challenges faced by those in ministry, including stress, trauma exposure, burnout, and relational difficulties, while also examining social realities affecting women in India such as marginalisation, violence, and trafficking.
Spiritual renewal formed a central dimension of the programme, guiding participants through processes of reflection and self-awareness that integrated psychological well-being with social responsibility and spiritual depth. Practical sessions on counselling skills and relational engagement provided tools for more effective accompaniment of survivors and vulnerable communities.
The functioning and collaborative vision of the network were presented by Sr. Regina Ruzario, who encouraged greater coordination among congregations engaged in anti-trafficking work across diverse regions.
The gathering concluded with a renewed sense of solidarity and commitment among participants, reaffirming their shared mission to uphold human dignity and to work collectively for justice, healing, and transformation for women and children vulnerable to exploitation.
