Hyderabad, Telangana, Sept. 3, 2025: Hundreds of faithful from across Hyderabad city gathered at the Shrine of Our Lady of Health in Khairatabad on August 29 to witness the traditional flag hoisting ceremony, marking the beginning of the annual novena and preparations for the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary feast. The solemn rite, presided over by Bp. Sagili Prakash, Bishop of Khammam Diocese, officially opened nine days of spiritual observances leading up to the grand celebration of the feast on September 8.
Later, Bishop Prakash presided over the celebration of the Holy Eucharist inside the shrine as the principal celebrant. In his homily, he highlighted Mary’s role as a mother and intercessor and urged the faithful to entrust their lives to her maternal care. The liturgy featured hymns of praise and active participation from parishioners and pilgrims, creating an atmosphere of deep devotion.
The Shrine of Our Lady of Health in Khairatabad, recognised as Asia’s largest octagonal church, is a major centre of the Catholic faith in Hyderabad. Each year, thousands of devotees visit the shrine to seek the divine intercession of Mother Mary, receive the sacraments, and strengthen their spiritual lives.
As part of the ongoing preparations, daily Novena prayers, processions with the statue of Our Lady, and Benediction will continue throughout the week at the shrine. The celebrations will culminate on September 8 with a solemn festive Mass, drawing pilgrims from across the city and beyond for the grand feast of the Nativity of Mary.
