Allahabad Diocese Explores Missionary Renewal in the Age of AI

Allahabad, September 4, 2026: Around 180 priests, religious, youth and lay faithful from across the Diocese of Allahabad participated in a one-day mission seminar focused on renewing the Church’s mission in the digital age.

Held at Jubilee Hall, Bishop’s House, Allahabad, the September 4 seminar was organised under the theme, “Called, Formed & Sent: Renewing Mission for Today’s Church.”

The seminar examined missionary renewal in the light of Magnifica Humanitas and artificial intelligence (AI), with discussions on how the Church can respond creatively and responsibly to rapid technological changes while remaining rooted in the Gospel and respect for human dignity.

Bishop Louis Mascarenhas of Allahabad delivered the keynote address, while Fr. Alfred D’Souza of the Archdiocese of Bhopal served as the resource person.

Sessions explored the vision of Magnifica Humanitas, particularly its emphasis on human dignity, synodality and mission in the digital age. Participants also examined the growing role of AI in ministry and evangelisation, including its potential applications and the ethical responsibilities involved in its use.

A practical session introduced participants to ChatGPT and other AI tools. They received hands-on training in preparing posters, presentations and communication materials, framing effective prompts and verifying AI-generated content.

The seminar also addressed cyber awareness and digital safety. Participants were briefed on online threats and scams, child protection in digital spaces, privacy and password security, and responsible social media use.

The discussions emphasised the need for priests, religious and pastoral workers to develop greater digital awareness and help communities, particularly young people, navigate the digital environment safely and responsibly.

The theme, “Called, Formed & Sent,” was presented as a call to missionary renewal, urging participants to proclaim the Gospel with greater creativity, wisdom and responsibility in a rapidly changing world.
