March 14, 2025: As the vibrant colours of Holi danced across the streets of North India, a stark contrast emerged between two states of India. In Uttar Pradesh, mosques were shrouded in tarpaulin, a somber reminder of the divisions that often plagued the country. Meanwhile, in Kerala, a different narrative unfolded.
In the quaint town of Thiruvananthapuram, the Attukal Pongala festival was in full swing. Thousands of Hindu devotees thronged the streets, carrying traditional offerings and chanting hymns. Amidst this sea of devotion, a remarkable sight caught the eye – mosques in the area had flung open their doors, welcoming the Hindu faithful to use their premises for the festival.
Hindus, Christians and Muslims together, worked tirelessly to ensure the festival's success. The Manakkad Juma Masjid provided parking, accommodation for drivers, drinking water, and separate toilets for women, while the St Joseph's Metropolitan Cathedral offered rest areas, water, and toilet facilities.
The Kerala love story was one of hope and harmony. As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, the people of Kerala knew that their bond would continue to shine bright, a beacon of hope in a world often torn apart by divisions.
In stark contrast, Uttar Pradesh's divisions served as a somber reminder of the challenges that still lay ahead.
