Karwar, October 11, 2025 — The Karnataka Regional Youth Commission (KRYC) inaugurated the 13th Regional Youth Convention, Yuvajanotsava 2025, alongside the Ruby Jubilee celebration of the Commission’s 40 years of service, at St. Joseph’s School and College Campus, Kajubag, Karwar. The four-day event, hosted by the Diocese of Karwar, brought together over 1,150 young participants from 13 dioceses across Karnataka and several Catholic youth movements including AICUF, Jesus Youth, YU4C, Abide, and Bosco Youth.
The event commenced with the inauguration of stalls representing various dioceses and youth movements, showcasing their cultures and traditions. A colourful procession of youth carrying the Regional Cross, accompanied by the St. Michael’s School Band, set a vibrant tone for the gathering.
The Inaugural Mass was celebrated by Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, with Dr. Henry Dsouza, Chairman of the KRCBC Youth Commission and Bishop of Bellary, delivering the homily. Forty-five priests and two deacons from across Karnataka concelebrated the Mass, with the liturgy led by the regional youth team and the choir rendered by the Diocese of Shimoga.
The formal opening ceremony of Yuvajanotsava 2025 was compered by Mr. Jaison Pereira from the Diocese of Mangalore. The celebration began with a graceful welcome dance by students of St. Joseph’s School, Karwar, followed by the release of the official theme song, accompanied by a lively dance performance by regional and diocesan youth.
Distinguished dignitaries including Bishops Henry Dsouza and Duming Dias, along with clergy and youth leaders, jointly inaugurated the convention and the Ruby Jubilee by lighting the ceremonial lamp and unveiling the official logo.
In his presidential address, Bishop Henry Dsouza reflected on the convention’s theme, “Youth Walk Together with Hope,” urging the youth to be beacons of faith, unity, and optimism in today’s world. Bishop Duming Dias, in his keynote address, described the youth as “a precious gift in the eyes of God” and encouraged them to use their talents for the Church and society.
The ceremony also recognised the dedicated contributions of past and present youth directors, animators, and leaders who have shaped the KRYC’s journey over the past four decades. Mr. Roystan Dias, President of ICYM Karwar Diocese, received special recognition for composing the convention’s theme song, while Mr. Rovin Pereira was honoured for designing its logo.
Ms. Vileena Gonsalves, KRYC Coordinator and ICYM Karnataka President, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all dioceses and collaborators for their support. A short video presentation highlighted KRYC’s 40-year legacy, followed by a series of cultural performances that celebrated Karnataka’s diversity and youth spirit.
The inauguration of Yuvajanotsava 2025 set the tone for a faith-filled and inspiring gathering — a celebration of youth, unity, and four decades of unwavering commitment to nurturing young Catholic leadership in Karnataka.
