Mysuru, February 1, 2026: The Diocese of Mysore commemorated World Peace Day 2026 with an interfaith programme at the St. Philomena’s Church Campus, Mysuru, reaffirming a shared commitment to peace, justice, and human fraternity. Organised under the theme “Peace · Justice · Harmony · Human Fraternity,” the initiative was jointly hosted by the Peace and Justice Commission of the Diocese of Mysore, the Inter-Religious Commission, and the Department of Christianity, University of Mysore.
Held under the pastoral leadership of Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Mysore, the event brought together religious leaders, scholars, and representatives of diverse faith traditions, underscoring the importance of dialogue and cooperation in fostering social harmony.
The programme began with an invocation through dance performed by children from the Mercy Residential School for the Hearing Impaired, followed by a welcome address that highlighted the relevance of interfaith engagement in a world marked by conflict and division. The World Peace Day message of the Holy Father was read, calling for reconciliation and the building of bridges across cultural and religious boundaries.
Messages of peace were shared by representatives of the Buddhist, Hindu, and Brahma Kumaris traditions, who reflected on compassion, ethical living, inner transformation, and spiritual responsibility as essential foundations for peaceful coexistence.
Cultural performances added depth to the celebration, including a skit on the life and message of St. Francis of Assisi and a children’s dance emphasising unity and non-violence. A prayer song by the Cathedral Choir further enriched the spiritual atmosphere.
In his presidential address, Bishop Francis Serrao SJ urged people of all faiths to move beyond words and become active builders of peace and justice in everyday life. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of participants, organisers, and collaborators who made the observance a meaningful expression of interfaith harmony.
