Good Shepherd Church initiative aims to make initial legal guidance more accessible to parishioners and the wider public

A new initiative at Good Shepherd Church, Four Bungalows, Andheri West, Mumbai, aims to change that by bringing initial legal guidance closer to the community.

The church has launched a Legal Cell in collaboration with the Dimensions Global Christian Chamber of Commerce, offering free initial legal consultations, guidance and direction to parishioners and members of the wider community.

A Community-Focused Initiative

The initiative has been spearheaded by Agnelo Rodrigues, Fr. Anil Rego, Parish Priest of Good Shepherd Church, Karon Shaiva, a parishioner and founder of IDOBRO, and Advocate Prem Kumar.

The Legal Cell is intended to help individuals better understand their legal concerns from the very beginning. Rather than leaving people uncertain about what steps to take, the initiative seeks to provide an initial consultation and help them identify an appropriate way forward.

The organisers hope the service will make legal assistance more accessible, particularly for people who may otherwise hesitate to seek professional advice because of uncertainty or cost.

Four Parishes to Benefit

The Legal Cell will serve parishioners from four Catholic communities in the area: St Blaise, Amboli; Our Lady of Health, Versova; Our Lady of Velankanni, Irla; and Good Shepherd Church, Four Bungalows.

At the same time, the service will not be restricted exclusively to these parish communities. It will also remain open to the wider community, allowing others who require initial legal direction to seek assistance.

The initiative reflects a broader understanding of parish life, in which the Church can provide practical support to people facing difficult circumstances alongside its spiritual and pastoral ministry.

Free Consultations Twice a Month

Free initial consultations will be available on the first and third Saturdays of every month, between 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm.

The consultations will take place in the Pink Room at Good Shepherd Church in Four Bungalows.

Those attending will be able to discuss their concerns during an initial consultation and receive guidance on possible next steps. The initiative is designed particularly to help people understand their situation and obtain direction before deciding how to proceed.

Bringing Support Closer to Home

The launch of the Legal Cell represents an effort to make professional guidance more approachable for members of the Catholic community and the wider public.

For further information about the Legal Cell, people can contact Agnelo Rodrigues on 99207 10902.

By placing legal guidance within a familiar parish setting, Good Shepherd Church hopes to offer not only a service, but also a practical expression of community care — helping people find clarity when they may be facing some of life's most difficult decisions.
