Video of Bible and Quran Burnt in Rohtak Sparks Public Concern

Rohtak, Haryana, November 20, 2025: A video circulating online has drawn widespread concern in Rohtak district of Haryana burning copies of the Bible and the Quran in what local accounts describe as a retaliatory response to alleged “deceitful conversion activities.” According to the footage and witness reports, members of the Arya Samaj confronted Christian families, accused them of engaging in conversion efforts, and compelled them to publicly burn their holy books.

The incident took place in a village near Rohtak police station area. In the video, a crowd surrounds Christian residents, some of whom are heard shouting insults and calling the families “traitors”. The footage shows physical coercion and members of the targeted community reluctantly placing the sacred texts into flames while others film the act. The video has since drawn widespread condemnation from human rights groups, religious organisations and critics of communal vigilantism.

Local authorities in Haryana have confirmed they are verifying the authenticity of the video and reviewing all facts, although no full official statement had been issued at the time of this report. The event comes amid a broader pattern of religious tension in several Indian states involving alleged forced or induced conversions, vigilante involvement and retaliatory public acts. Rights groups warn that such incidents risk escalating communal hostility and undermining legal protections for all religious communities.

Observers have noted that while some groups frame the issue as a response to coercive conversion, the burning of religious texts constitutes a symbolic act with serious implications for inter-religious harmony and minority rights. The incident has re-ignited calls for clear legal frameworks and enforcement to protect religious freedom and prevent collective punishment or intimidation of minority communities.
