Vellore Diocese Launches Programme to Strengthen Priestly Well-being

Alamelarangapuram, April 13, 2026: Responding to the growing pastoral and emotional demands placed on clergy, the Diocese of Vellore has initiated a dedicated formation programme aimed at promoting the holistic well-being of its priests. The two-day initiative commenced on April 13 at Sneha Deepam, Alamelarangapuram, bringing together a significant number of diocesan clergy for reflection and renewal.

The programme, centred on the theme “Psycho-Spiritual Integration: From Burnout to Cherishing,” seeks to foster a deeper integration of psychological awareness with spiritual growth. Through this approach, participants are encouraged to recognise and address signs of burnout while rediscovering joy and meaning in their priestly vocation. The sessions are being facilitated by Fr. Charles OFM Cap., who is guiding the priests through reflective exercises and processes of inner healing.

The inaugural session was presided over by Msgr. M. John Nicholas, Vicar General of the diocese, in the presence of key diocesan officials including Fr. Richard, Diocesan Procurator; Fr. N. T. Irudhayaraj, Director of the Pastoral Centre; Fr. Jegadhis, Tribunal Judge; and Fr. Lua Thomas, Director of the hosting centre. Their presence underscored the importance the diocese attaches to the personal and spiritual welfare of its clergy.

Participants are engaging in a range of activities, including guided sessions, group discussions, and opportunities for personal sharing, all designed to promote self-awareness, emotional resilience, and spiritual renewal.

Set against the tranquil backdrop of Sneha Deepam, the programme offers priests a space away from their routine pastoral responsibilities, enabling them to focus on prayer, reflection, and fraternity.

Through this initiative, the Diocese of Vellore reaffirms its commitment to the ongoing formation of its clergy, recognising that sustained pastoral service is rooted in inner strength, balance, and a renewed sense of mission.
