Union Minister Rijiju Says Catholic Church Doesn't Convert But Educates

New Delhi, November 3, 2025: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju praised the activities of the Catholic Church, saying that the Church does not convert people and only spreads knowledge.

The minister’s remarks were made at the ceremony where Archbishop Kuriakose Bharanikulangara was installed as the Archbishop of the Faridabad Archdiocese under the Syro-Malabar Church.

The Union Minister participated in the installation ceremony of Mar Kuriakose Bharanikulangara as the first Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Faridabad.

Union Minister of State ,George Kurien, a representative of the Vatican, and the Special Representative of the Kerala Government in Delhi, K. V. Thomas, were present throughout the function.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s message was read at the event. The arrest of two Malayali nuns in Chhattisgarh on charges of religious conversion was a major setback for the BJP, which had tried to get closer to the Christian church leadership in Kerala.

The active presence of Union ministers at the event is of political importance, especially in the run-up to crucial elections in Kerala.
