Udupi Diocese Felicitates Top Scorers of Diocesan Catechism Exam

Udupi, Feb 15, 2025 – Divya Jyothi, the Diocesan Biblical and Catechetical Commission of the Udupi Diocese, honoured 42 Class X students from various schools for their outstanding performance in the Diocesan Level Catechism Exam during a special felicitation ceremony on February 9, 2025. The final round of the exam was conducted on January 4, 2025.


The felicitation event was held at the Anugaha Pastoral Centre in Udupi. It was graced by the presence of Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi, along with esteemed guests Rev. Fr. Vincent Crasta, Secretary of CESU; Mr. John Baptist Cornelio, Mrs. Philomena Cornelio, Sr. Maria D’Sa AC, Jeneviev Marina Miranda, Rev. Fr. Cyril Lobo, and Viola Sanli Tellis.


The program commenced with a graceful prayer dance performed by students of Mount Rosary High School, setting a reverent tone for the event. Following this, three students shared their experiences of studying catechism over the past ten years, emphasising its profound impact on their faith and personal growth.


A special Lifetime Service Award was conferred upon Sr. Maria D’Sa AC and Jeneviev Marina Miranda in recognition of their 50 years of dedicated service as catechism teachers in their respective parishes. Additionally, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelio were honoured for their selfless contributions to the Diocese of Udupi.


Beyond recognising the top scorers, 43 primary school children were felicitated for their enthusiastic participation in the Bible Storytelling Programme, encouraging young minds to deepen their engagement with faith.


In his address, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo congratulated the children on their achievements and urged them to continue their spiritual journey with the same zeal, fostering a love for the Church and the Word of God.


The event was beautifully coordinated by Miss Ashini and Serah, with proud parents present to witness their children's achievements being recognised by the Bishop.
