Chicalim Parish in Goa Celebrates Sanitation Workers with Heartfelt Valentine’s Day Tribute

Chicalim, February 18, 2025 - The SFX Parish Social Action Team organised a special Valentine's Day event on February 14 for the garbage collectors of Chicalim village, expressing heartfelt appreciation for their essential service to the community. The gathering aimed to show these often-overlooked individuals that their hard work is valued and respected.

Held in Hindi to ensure inclusivity and comfort, the evening began with a warm welcome from youth representative Valisha Gama of the social action cell. Forty-five sanitation workers attended the celebration.

Parish priests Fr. Bolmax Pereira and Fr. Peter Fernades created a joyful atmosphere, leading engaging conversations, games, and an action song. Enthusiastic participation in the singing and dancing was rewarded with spot prizes, adding to the festive spirit. "Valentine's Day ke avsar par ikatte hokar hum aap ko dhanyavad dena chahte hai aur sirf itna batana chahte hai ki hum aap logo se pyar karte hai," said Fr. Pereira, evoking a thunderous applause from the special guests.

As a gesture of gratitude and recognition, each worker received a small but meaningful token of appreciation. This act of kindness was part of the Chicalim Church's 400th-anniversary celebration of Christian faith, underscoring the importance of community and service.

The sanitation workers expressed deep gratitude for the event. One worker, Mr. Kamal Singh, shared that they had never felt so honoured, noting that this was the first time they had been treated with such respect and love. They sincerely thanked the organisers for making them feel special and valued.

This event strengthened the connection between the community and its sanitation workers, embodying the true spirit of love, appreciation, and inclusivity. It served as a powerful reminder to acknowledge and respect those who contribute so selflessly to society. The organisers, the Social Action Cell of SFX Parish of Chicalim, hope to continue similar initiatives in the future, ensuring these vital members of the community always feel appreciated and included in its celebrations and milestones.
