Theology Students Complete Media Training at Madha TV, Chennai

Chennai, Tamil nadu, August 16, 2025: A group of fourth-year theology students from St Peter's Pontifical Institute, Bengaluru, concluded a five-day media course at Madha TV, Chennai, on 15 August. The intensive programme, aimed at equipping future pastoral leaders with communication skills for the digital age, offered a comprehensive introduction to modern media.

The curriculum was carefully designed to balance theoretical foundations with practical applications in a pastoral context. Participants engaged with a wide range of subjects, including the ethical and practical dimensions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in communication—a theme of growing importance within the Church. Students described the sessions on AI as particularly enlightening, offering perspectives on how technology can serve evangelisation while maintaining a strong ethical framework.

A major focus of the training was film production, which strongly resonated with the aspiring priests. Through hands-on workshops, the students learned the essentials of visual storytelling—scripting, filming, and editing—gaining practical experience in creating compelling video content for pastoral purposes.

The schedule also featured modules on content writing, visual communication, and strategic use of social media. By exploring these diverse areas, the participants developed a holistic understanding of today’s media landscape and the platforms available for future ministry.

Reflecting on the experience, one student said the course "seamlessly integrated our theological formation with the practical skills needed for effective communication in a world dominated by technology." He added that the training would prove "invaluable in our future work to preach the Gospel."

The collaboration between St Peter's Pontifical Institute and Madha TV underscores the Church’s proactive commitment to preparing its leaders for both the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. The successful completion of the course represents a significant step in ensuring the Church’s message is communicated with clarity, creativity, and authenticity in today’s media-saturated world.
