Forming Shepherds for the Youth: Empowering Future Priests for Dynamic Youth Ministry

Hyderabad, August 16, 2025 – St. John Regional Seminary, Hyderabad, hosted a six-day Youth Ministry Formation Week from 11 to 16 August, designed to prepare final-year theology students for effective ministry among young people in today’s changing world.

Led by Rector Fr. Kommaredy Marredy and Principal Fr. Dasi Suresh, the seminary welcomed Fr. Medi Sleevaraj SDB, Regional Youth Director of the TCBC Youth Commission, as the chief resource person. Renowned for his dynamic approach to youth ministry, Fr. Sleevaraj guided 28 theology students from dioceses across the Telugu-speaking states through a series of interactive and engaging sessions.

Focus on Pastoral Relevance

The formation week placed strong emphasis on the practical and relational dimensions of youth ministry. Participants explored the significance of building authentic relationships, listening with empathy, and journeying with young people in their faith. Group activities, reflective exercises, and pastoral insights created a lively and participatory atmosphere, helping the seminarians engage with real-life challenges faced by today’s youth.

A highlight of the week was an interactive session with young representatives. Miss Sharon Manisha, Regional Youth Secretary, and Mr. Ajay, a local youth leader, shared their perspectives in an open dialogue. Their candid reflections offered seminarians a first-hand understanding of the hopes, struggles, and expectations of the younger generation, making the programme both relevant and deeply formative.

Lasting Impressions

At the conclusion of the event, Fr. Sleevaraj received appreciation for his inspiring sessions, innovative teaching methods, and pastoral wisdom. His ability to bridge theological concepts with the lived experiences of young people left a strong impact on the future priests.

The week-long initiative not only enriched the seminarians’ understanding of youth ministry but also instilled a renewed passion for service. The students departed with a clearer vision of their role as compassionate, creative, and committed shepherds, equipped to accompany the next generation with dedication and care.
