The Challenges and Needs of Single Indian Catholics: A Catholic Matchmaker's Perspective

Vasai, May 14, 2026 — Susanna Tuscano, a wife, mother, evangelist, speaker and author, has spent years listening to the struggles of single Indian Catholics searching for meaningful, faith-filled relationships. Through her faith-based online matchmaking service, Catholic Disciples Matchmaking Service (CDMS), she has encountered the deep emotional and spiritual challenges many singles face while discerning marriage in today’s world.

“It’s so hard to find someone with the same faith, values and long-term vision,” many singles confide in her. Others express an even deeper frustration: “It’s really a challenge to connect with people who are truly Catholic disciples, who live a Christ-centered life, upholding values and beliefs of the Catholic Church.”

For many, the waiting itself becomes painful and discouraging. “How long do I have to wait? It seems like there is no one out there for me.”

For Indian Catholics, the search for a spouse can often feel draining and exhausting. Alongside societal pressure to “settle down” before it is considered too late, many find that the kind of faith, maturity and shared values they desire seem increasingly difficult to find.

In 2020, she founded CDMS, an online platform for single Catholic disciples. Her vision was to create a space where Catholics who took their faith seriously could connect and hopefully discern a life partner together. However, as she interacted with singles through her serivce and its growing Instagram page, @catholicmatchmaking, she realized the issue extended far beyond the lack of potential matches.

She observed that many Catholic singles were struggling with hopelessness, doubt and even a crisis of faith. Many felt trapped between the expectations of family, the demands of prospective spouses, and their own fears, desires and hopes. Some shared that they felt objectified, rejected and confused during the process of discerning marriage.

Questions of faith frequently surfaced in these conversations: “Where is God in all this? Does He really have a plan for me? Am I expecting too much? Should I just compromise and marry the next match brought to me by my family? Or should I look outside the Catholic community? Does it really matter in the end?”

Witnessing this spiritual and emotional struggle, she felt called to become what she describes as a prophetic and encouraging voice for singles navigating these challenges.

Inspired by Saint John Paul II’s exhortation to young people to “Open the doors to Christ!”, she began encouraging singles through her platform with a message of hope: “God has not forgotten you! He cares about your struggles, your hopes and your desires! Open yourself to Him, and let Him surprise you! Don't let the pressures from your family, society or your own fears or prejudices dictate your decision making. Make room for Christ to guide you to the right person. Happy and holy Christ-centred marriages are still possible today!”

The response has been deeply encouraging. Today, the social media interactions are tremendous, with many sharing that the platform has renewed their hope while they wait and discern. Others say it has given them a deeper understanding of Catholic marriage and discernment, while also providing a meaningful space to connect with others who share their faith.

She believes that Indian Catholic singles today are facing “a battle for their souls.” Yet she also sees this moment as an opportunity — an opportunity to bring Christ into the realities and struggles of young people searching for love, purpose and vocation.

For her, platforms like CDMS and Catholic Connect Matrimony are not merely matchmaking initiatives but avenues for spreading the word and accompaniment.

Coincidentally she will be organising “Indian Catholic Hangout,” an online matchmaking event for Indian Catholic singles aged 26–34 years on 23rd May 2026 in collaboration with Catholic Connect Matrimony.

Through them, she hopes young Catholics can encounter Jesus more deeply, grow in a faith rooted in Church teaching and wisdom and discern God’s calling for their lives with greater clarity and confidence.
