St Peter’s Pontifical Institute Celebrates Third SPOT Convocation in Bangalore

Bangalore, February 25, 2026: Emphasising the expanding reach of structured online theological formation, St Peter’s Pontifical Institute celebrated the third convocation of St Peter’s Online Theology (SPOT) under the theme “Rooted in Christ, Rising in Wisdom.” Graduates, faculty members, and Church leaders gathered for the ceremony, which was livestreamed on YouTube to enable broader participation among the faithful.

The day’s celebrations were centred on the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Bishop Antonysamy S., grounding the academic milestone in prayerful thanksgiving. The liturgical celebration underscored that theological formation is not merely intellectual pursuit but a path toward faithful discipleship and service in the Church and society.

Academic engagement formed a key component of the programme, with students participating in departmental and common evaluation sessions. Graduates reflected on their journey through the SPOT initiative, noting how the programme deepened their understanding of Sacred Scripture, Church teaching, and personal faith. Participants also offered constructive recommendations to strengthen the initiative, including expanded digital access to study resources and more regular academic assessments.

The formal convocation ceremony was attended by Bishop Arockia Raj Satis Kumar as Chief Guest and Sr Florence Fernandez of the FS Bangalore Province as Guest of Honour. Institute authorities and the SPOT coordination team were also present, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the programme’s growth. Certificates were conferred upon the graduates in recognition of their academic achievement and commitment to ongoing theological formation.

In his address, the Chief Guest encouraged graduates to cultivate a lifelong pursuit of wisdom and to incarnate theological learning through daily Christian witness. The Guest of Honour emphasised fidelity to Christ and dedication to the common good, urging the graduates to become bearers of hope within their communities.

The convocation reaffirmed the SPOT programme’s mission of integrating academic rigour with spiritual formation. Rooted in faith and oriented toward mission, the graduates now move forward equipped to engage both Church and society with renewed theological insight and pastoral commitment.
