July 5, 2025: A powerful musical tribute was released by Rev. Fr. Christopher Vaz, Regional Youth Director of the Western Region Youth Council on the death anniversary of Fr. Stan Swamy. Speaking to Catholic Connect, Fr. Vaz said, “Fr. Stan was not just a priest — he was a revolutionary, a reformer, and a real hero. Hats off to him.” The tribute, first written as a Hindi poem, has now become a soul-stirring song that reignites the memory and mission of a man who gave voice to the silenced.
The song, released on 5 July 2025, is both a tribute and a call to action. The line "You destroyed his body, but can you ever kill his soul?" is a bold reminder that Fr. Stan’s spirit lives on — unbroken by prison walls and undeterred by persecution.
The song captures not only the injustice but the immense compassion that defined Fr. Stan’s mission. As the lyrics put it: "You held the helpless close to your heart and called every suffering soul your own." These words mirror the priest’s deep solidarity with the marginalised, his belief that every life mattered, especially those left unseen by society.
“I never had the chance to meet him,” Fr. Vaz added, “but his courage and clarity of purpose deeply moved me. Four years ago, I put those emotions into a Hindi poem, which today has become this tribute song.”
Fr. Vaz reflected, “Despite his age and frailty, he was subjected to inhuman treatment under false accusations. To me, he is a true martyr, a prophetic voice silenced too soon.”
The song does not shy away from confronting harsh truths either. With a tone both reflective and provocative, one line speaks directly to the climate Fr. Stan endured: "Truth-speakers are treated as suspects." A stark reality, it underscores how speaking out for the poor often invites punishment, not praise.
Fr. Vaz further expressed gratitude to Mr. Olison Tuscano for bringing the tribute to life through visuals. “This year, on his death anniversary, it was released as a humble tribute. I’m grateful to Olison for creating a beautiful video that truly captures Fr. Stan’s essence,” he said.
Let this tribute move you. Let it challenge you. Let it remind you that Compassion is Action.
