Pope Leo Meets with Montenegro’s Prime Minister at the Vatican

Vatican City, July 4, 2025: Pope Leo XIV met with Milojko Spajić, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, on Friday morning during an audience at the Vatican Apostolic Palace. 


Following his audience with the Holy Father, the Montenegrin leader held further discussions at the Secretariat of State with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations.


According to a statement from the Holy See Press Office, the conversations were marked by cordiality. Both sides expressed mutual satisfaction with the current state of relations between Montenegro and the Holy See. The officials also addressed a range of topics concerning the relationship between the Catholic Church and the Montenegrin state.


The talks included discussions on broader regional and global matters. Particular attention was given to the enlargement of the European Union to include countries in the Western Balkans, a process Montenegro is actively pursuing. Additionally, the Vatican and Montenegrin delegations discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its humanitarian and geopolitical implications.
