Sisters of St. Ann's of Luzern Mourn Former General's Passing

Visakhapatnam, July 26, 2024: The Sisters of St. Ann's of Luzern are mourning the loss of their beloved former General, Sr. Tresa Ann, who passed away on July 25, 2024, at the age of 74. Her funeral will be held at Shalom Cemetery in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on July 27, 2024.


Sr. Tresa Ann served as the Superior General of the Congregation from 2006 to 2012. A dedicated educator, she was deeply committed to her mission. Born on April 30, 1950, in the Vadakkan family in Kalluthi, Thrissur district, Kerala, she was the eldest of eight children. She joined the Society of St. Ann, Luzern in 1965, took her first vows in 1969, and her final commitment in 1974.


Sr. Elizabeth Antony, the current General, remembered her fondly: “She rendered selfless services to the province and general administration for many years. She was a woman of vision, energy, enthusiasm, and joy. Her vibrant presence and outstanding leadership enriched many hearts.”


Sr. Pauline Augustine, Provincial of the Bangalore Province, added, “She guided the congregation with wisdom, grace, and vision, inspiring countless lives through her selfless service. Her legacy will continue to inspire and empower the sisters of St. Ann's of Luzern in their mission to serve the poor, the sick, and the marginalized.”


The Society of Sisters of St. Ann, Luzern, founded in 1909 by Fr. Wilhelm Meyer in Switzerland, established its presence in India in 1927. Today, there are three provinces in India with 1,234 religious sisters serving in more than 52 dioceses across the country.
