Mangaluru, Sept. 12, 2025 — The Karnataka unit of the All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) held its State Council Meet on August 29 and 30 at St. Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru. The event brought together unit members, youth leaders, animators and resource persons for two days of workshops, panel discussions and cultural programmes focused on leadership and social responsibility.
The event commenced on the first day with an energetic icebreaker session. This was followed by the Investiture Ceremony of the new AICUF State Council for 2025–26. Fr. Ashwin Cardoza, Regional Director of the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Other distinguished dignitaries present included Fr. Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director of SJEC; Dr. Rio D’Souza, Principal of SJEC; and AICUF leaders Mr. Shaik Salman, Mr. Joysun D’Souza, and Ms. Salomi. Mr. Shaik led the investiture ceremony, formally commissioning the new State Council.
Chief Guest Fr. Ashwin delivered the keynote address, inspiring the youth with reflections on leadership and commitment. Fr. Joel Fernandes, SJ, advisor to the AICUF Karnataka State Unit, then outlined the organisation’s vision and mission. Later, group discussions were held, during which participants collectively reflected on pressing issues concerning society and the youth. The discussions were moderated by Mr. Shaik and members of the newly appointed AICUF State Council.
In the afternoon, a panel discussion led by senior AICUF leaders was held. Panel members shared personal experiences of their respective journeys with AICUF, leaving members of the new State Council deeply inspired. The day concluded with a thematic Cultural Night, featuring a vibrant array of musical, dance, and drama performances that conveyed powerful moral and social messages. Each performance left the audience visibly moved and deeply inspired.
The second day of the Meet began with an interreligious prayer led by Mr. Salman, symbolising unity and inclusivity. The day featured sessions on Social Conflict Management by Br. Rudolph SJ, Creative and Critical Thinking by Mr. Elson D’Souza of Srinivas University, Bengaluru, and Media and Artificial Intelligence by Mr. Royal Praveen D’Souza of St. Aloysius University, Mangaluru. These talks enriched participants with valuable insights, equipping them with the knowledge required to critically engage with society, address real-world challenges, and foster responsibility and creativity as youth leaders.
The Valedictory Ceremony of the meeting, presided over by Fr. Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, marked the conclusion of the two-day event. Fr. Anthony Derick (Coastal Zone Youth Director) and several other dignitaries were also present for the occasion. During the ceremony, certificates were distributed to all the participants.
The AICUF State Council Meet successfully blended education, dialogue, culture, and interreligious harmony, leaving participants equipped with the necessary skills and insights to lead with conviction and serve society in the spirit of justice and inclusivity.
