Patna, Bihar, September 12, 2025: The Bihar Regional Commission for Proclamation held a two-day meeting from September 11 to 12, 2025, at Nav Jyothi Niketan, the Bihar Regional Pastoral Centre in Patna. The gathering brought together secretaries and core team members of diocesan proclamation commissions from across the region.
A total of 30 participants from six dioceses participated in the event, which was organised to deepen their understanding of the Church’s mission of evangelisation and to train them in modern methods of proclamation.
The meeting commenced on the first day with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration led by Bp. James Shekar, Bishop of Buxar and Chairman of the Bible and Proclamation Commissions of the Bihar region. The inaugural session of the meeting featured the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, an opening prayer, and words of welcome by Fr. Bhaskar Bojja, Regional Secretary for the Commission of Proclamation.
In his keynote address on the theme ‘Evangelisation in the State of Bihar – Past and Present’, Bishop Shekar reflected on both the challenges and the progress of missionary outreach in the region.
Fr. Paul D’Souza, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Proclamation, conducted sessions on biblical and Vatican perspectives of proclamation and the significance of Evangelii Nuntiandi, stressing the role of the Pontifical Missions Organisation in global evangelisation. “Proclamation is the continuous announcement of Jesus Christ as the source of hope, ” Fr. Paul affirmed during one of the sessions conducted by him.Group discussions and an open forum followed Fr. Paul’s sessions.
Sr. Margarita Dias SCB, Associate Director for Communio, led an interactive awareness session on the organisation. The session featured animation, discussions, and a video presentation which highlighted the mission and practical initiatives of the CCBI and Communio. “Communio empowers us to proclaim with missionary zeal through prayer, solidarity, and mission, ” Sr. Margarita stated during her session.
The meeting concluded with group discussions, the sharing of final insights, and Bishop Shekar’s call for renewed courage and joy in proclaiming the Gospel. Quoting Church documents, Bishop Shekar stated, “Evangelisation is not an option; it is the very reason the Church exists.”
The two-day meeting successfully rekindled missionary passion among all the participants, equipping them with practical tools and a strong vision to advance the mission of proclaiming the Gospel across dioceses in Bihar.
