Rev. Dr. Anthony Sebastian Appointed as Coordinator of CCBI Education Apostolate

New Delhi, 12 September 2025 (CCBI): The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) has appointed Rev. Dr. A. L. Anthony Sebastian of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore as the new Coordinator of the Education Apostolate of the CCBI. The appointment was made during the Executive Committee meeting held in New Delhi from 9-10 September 2025.


Born on 1 October 1964 in Chennai, Fr. Sebastian was ordained a priest on 5 May 1992. He holds degrees in Philosophy and Theology from the Pontifical Urbanian University, Rome, a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Madras, and a Master’s in Theology from Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune. He also pursued studies in Communication, Education, Ethics, and Human Resource Management.


Fr. Sebastian has served the Church in various pastoral and academic roles. He has been Assistant Parish Priest, Parish Priest in several parishes, and Professor at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Poonamallee. He also worked as a Research Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Madras and was Vice-Principal and later Principal of Christ College of Arts and Science, Kilachery. Since 2021.


He was also a Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Currently he is the Director of the JD Academy of Excellence, Chennai.
