India, December 18, 2024: Signis India hosted a webinar on December 16, 2024, titled "Cyber Sapiens: Cyber Security and Wellness Strategies for a Balanced Online Life," which attracted over 110 participants. The session, led by Fr. Jenith Sekar, General Manager of Madha TV’s Technical Department in Tamil Nadu, focused on the growing threat of cybercrime and the importance of staying vigilant online. Fr. Sekar drew upon the Pope's message about the “Road to Jericho” and emphasized the need for compassion and protective measures in the digital world, urging participants to act as Good Samaritans in cyberspace.
During his presentation, Fr. Sekar outlined various cyber threats, including phishing, vishing, smishing, baiting, cyber grooming, cyber stalking, cyber kidnapping, doxxing, pharming, sexting, deepfake, and digital arrest. These threats, he noted, affect individuals, businesses, and governments worldwide. He provided practical strategies for enhancing cyber wellness, such as updating operating systems, remaining proactive about digital safety, and avoiding suspicious links or attachments.
Fr. Sekar also warned against "Brain Rot," a cognitive decline caused by excessive consumption of low-quality digital content. He urged participants to adopt a mindset of digital caution and become “Google Samaritans,” safeguarding themselves and others online.
Fr. Victor Vijai Lobo, Secretary and Treasurer of Signis India, welcomed the attendees and encouraged a deeper understanding of cybersecurity. The webinar was coordinated by Fr. David Arockiam, Secretary of Signis India and CEO of Madha Television, who highlighted the importance of recognizing digital threats in an increasingly connected world.
