Mysore, November 18, 2025: A unique display of unity and reconciliation marked the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Prison Ministry India (PMI) – Mysore Diocesan Commission, which organised a friendly cricket tournament at the Mysore Central Prison grounds on Sunday.
The tournament brought together prison officials, personnel from the Karnataka Industrial Security Force (KISF), religious brothers from the OCD, SVD, and Capuchin congregations, PMI volunteers, and the families of prison staff. The event was inaugurated by Mr Seshumurthy, Chief Superintendent of Mysore Central Prison, in the presence of Rev. Fr. Tenny Kurien, Director of ODP.
Five teams participated in the 8-over limited-format matches, which were conducted from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Professional umpires from St Philomena’s College ensured fairness and discipline throughout the games. PMI also provided refreshments for all present, fostering a warm and hospitable atmosphere.
The highlight of the day was the sense of harmony between the Prison Officials and the KISF personnel, who had previously experienced strained relations. Both groups publicly acknowledged PMI’s efforts in creating a space that encouraged trust, dialogue, and camaraderie.
As a gesture of goodwill, PMI donated a complete cricket kit to the Prison Department, a contribution that was received with appreciation.
Led by Mr Michael and the dedicated PMI Mysore prison ministry team, the initiative demonstrated how sports can serve as an effective tool for bridge-building, reconciliation, and fostering a more humane prison environment.
