Patiala Deanery Women’s Commission Celebrates International Women’s Day at Kauli

Kauli, Punjab, March 15, 2026: The Women’s Commission of the Patiala Deanery in the Diocese of Simla-Chandigarh marked International Women’s Day with a vibrant celebration at Kauli, bringing together hundreds of faithful to reflect on the themes of women’s empowerment and gender equality.

The programme witnessed the participation of nearly 400 women, along with men and children from various parishes of the deanery. The gathering aimed to recognise the dignity and vital contributions of women within families, parish communities, and society.

Dr. Shikha Gupta, a gynaecologist from Neelam Hospital, attended the celebration as the chief guest. The guest of honour was Satwinder Bitti, a well-known Punjabi singer and former national hockey player.

Among those present were Fr. John Thaddeus, Dean of Patiala Deanery; Fr. Dominic, the former dean; and Sr. Lissy John S.C.J.M., coordinator of the Patiala Deanery Women’s Commission. Several priests and women religious also joined the gathering.

The day began with the Holy Eucharistic celebration, setting a prayerful tone for the event. Following the Mass, participants from different parishes presented a variety of cultural programmes that highlighted the important role of women in both the Church and society. Through songs, performances and presentations, the participants celebrated women’s leadership and service within parish communities.

Speakers during the programme emphasised the need to recognise the dignity and gifts of women while promoting equality and empowerment in all spheres of life. Organisers noted that such gatherings help strengthen solidarity among women and encourage greater participation in the mission of the Church.

The event concluded with a call for men and women to work together in building a more just and inclusive society. Participants were encouraged to promote gender equality in their families, parishes and workplaces, while continuing to uphold the dignity of every woman.

The celebration ended on a hopeful note, with participants returning to their homes inspired to contribute more actively to the life of the Church and the transformation of society.
