The Jubilee Year of Hope 2025, inaugurated on Christmas Eve, is the first jubilee in the history of the Catholic Church to have an official mascot. Unlike previous Jubilee celebrations, which were solely represented by an official logo, this Holy Year, in addition to its official logo, is also being represented by Luce, an anime-style cartoon mascot.
Unveiled on October 28, 2024, by Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Luce—meaning "light" in Italian—was designed by Simone Legno, a Japanese-influenced Italian illustrator. The mascot, depicted as a Catholic pilgrim, sports a bright yellow anorak to shield against the elements, muddy green boots symbolizing her journey, and a World Mission rosary alongside a cross around her neck. She also holds a pilgrim's staff in her hand. Her luminous eyes, which shine with an intense light, symbolize the hope that is born in the heart of every pilgrim and reflect the desire for spirituality and connection with the divine. These features embody a universal message of peace and fraternity.
Luce’s design, rooted in pop culture, aims to resonate with younger generations and foster intergenerational dialogue. Beyond symbolizing the Jubilee, the mascot serves as an emblem of community, hospitality, and shared faith.
