Pope Leo XIV’s 12-Day Latin America Journey: Vatican Releases Itinerary

Vatican, Sep 23, 2026: The Holy See Press Office has released the programme, logos and mottos for Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming Apostolic Journey to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, scheduled from 6 to 17 November. The 12-day journey will take the Pope to ten cities across the three countries, with the newly released programme providing details of the times, venues and activities.

Uruguay: 6–8 November

Pope Leo XIV will begin his journey in Uruguay, visiting Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida from 6 to 8 November. It will be the first papal visit to the country since St John Paul II travelled there in 1988.

The motto for the Uruguay stage is “I bring you news of great joy”, taken from the angel’s announcement to the shepherds in Bethlehem in Luke 2:10.

The logo features Christ crucified and risen, flanked by Pope Leo and Our Lady of the Thirty-Three, patroness of Uruguay. Above them is the sun inspired by the “Sun of May”, a symbol of Uruguay’s national identity. The colour blue evokes the country’s national flag.

Argentina: 8–11 November

From 8 to 11 November, Pope Leo will visit Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján. Argentina is the home country of Pope Francis, and the visit will take place almost four decades after the last papal visit, when St John Paul II travelled to the country in 1987.

The motto for this stage is “Welcome everyone. Go and proclaim”.

The logo depicts a group of people with a cross at the centre. Their arrangement represents a shared journey and the co-responsibility of each person, moving from encounter to proclamation as missionary disciples.

Peru: 11–17 November

Pope Leo will then travel to Peru, where he will remain from 11 to 17 November. The longest stage of the journey will include Lima, Chiclayo, Cuzco and Pucallpa.

The Vatican noted the particular significance of the visit for Pope Leo, who spent years carrying out missionary and pastoral work in the country.

The motto for the Peru stage is “Let us open our hearts”. Its logo is framed by a heart symbolising openness to God, to others and to the future. Within it is a map of Peru with the Holy Spirit represented as a dove. At the centre is Pope Leo, surrounded by Peruvian saints: St Rose of Lima, St Turibius of Mogrovejo, St Martin de Porres, St Francis Solano and St John Macías.
