Vatican City, 1 November 2026: Pope Leo XIV has urged Catholics to remain committed to peace in every situation, stressing that holiness is a universal calling expressed through love, forgiveness and the rejection of evil.
Speaking during the Angelus on the Solemnity of All Saints on Sunday, the Pope told the faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square that holiness involves making choices of love that overcome greed and the arrogance of evil.
“May we never grow weary of fostering peace, both in the most important situations and in the ordinary circumstances of everyday life,” he said from the window of the Apostolic Palace.
The Pope emphasised that holiness is not reserved for a select few but is a calling for everyone, regardless of their circumstances.
“Holiness is not a privilege reserved for a few, but a universal vocation that speaks to each of us where we live,” he said.
He also highlighted the hope offered by the feast, explaining that God recognises goodness that often goes unnoticed, knows people's untold stories and reaches hearts beyond human understanding.
Remembering the countless saints
Pope Leo recalled the countless men and women who have followed Christ by making their lives a gift to God and their neighbours.
He noted that the Church's saints include not only those formally recognised through canonisation but also countless people from different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life whose holiness may remain unknown to the wider world.
The Pope said holiness cannot be measured by numbers, as the goodness saints spread throughout the world extends far beyond calculation.
Reflecting on the day's Gospel and the Beatitudes, he described the saints as people who remain rich in God's love despite poverty, find consolation amid sorrow, respond to violence with meekness and seek justice with perseverance.
He also highlighted their willingness to forgive, their purity of heart, their commitment to peacemaking and their courage in facing persecution while remaining firm in faith and charity.
The Pope's message called on Catholics to follow the example of the saints by practising love and forgiveness, pursuing justice and promoting peace in both significant situations and the ordinary moments of daily life.
