Pope Leo XIV Calls for Disarmament and Peace in March Prayer Intention

Vatican City, March 7, 2026: Pope Leo XIV has dedicated his monthly prayer intention for March to “for disarmament and peace,” inviting Catholics worldwide to unite in prayer for an end to war and the renunciation of weapons.

The intention is presented in The Pope Video, an initiative entrusted to the universal Church through the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network.

Opening his prayer, Pope Leo recalls that the Lord created every human person in His image and likeness, forming humanity “for communion, not for war,” and “for fraternity, not for destruction.” Echoing Christ’s greeting to His disciples — “Peace be with you” — the Holy Father asks for the gift of peace and the strength to make it a lived reality in history.

He urges the faithful to pray that nations will renounce weapons and pursue dialogue and diplomacy. The Pope calls on the Lord to help humanity “disarm our hearts of hatred, resentment, and indifference,” so that people may become instruments of reconciliation.

Stressing the foundations of authentic peace, Pope Leo underlines that “true security does not come from control fuelled by fear, but from trust, justice, and solidarity among peoples.” He prays that leaders of nations may be enlightened and find the courage to abandon “projects of death,” halt the arms race, and prioritise the lives of the most vulnerable.

“May the nuclear threat never again dictate the future of humanity,” he appeals, voicing concern over the destructive potential of modern warfare.

The Holy Father further invokes the Holy Spirit to form faithful and creative builders of daily peace — in communities, families, cities and hearts. He concludes by praying that every kind word, every gesture of reconciliation and every choice for dialogue may become seeds of a renewed world.

Pray with the Pope is the official global initiative dedicated to sharing the Holy Father’s monthly prayer intentions. It is carried out by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, a Pontifical Work entrusted to the Society of Jesus.

Founded in 1844 as the Apostleship of Prayer, the initiative was established as a Vatican Foundation by Pope Francis in December 2020, with its final statutes approved in July 2024. Since 2016, the project has garnered more than 247 million views across Vatican social media platforms, is translated into over 23 languages, and has received media coverage in 114 countries.

Through prayer and action, the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network continues to mobilise Catholics in response to the pressing challenges facing humanity and the mission of the Church.
