Pope Leo Urges Gen Z to Use AI Without Losing Human Connection

Vatican City, May 21, 2026: Pope Leo has encouraged young people to use artificial intelligence responsibly, reminding them that technology can never replace the human heart, prayer, love, or creativity.

The Pope addressed young people gathered at the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) 2025 in Indiana, USA. Speaking to a stadium filled with Gen Z and young adults, he reflected on the growing influence of artificial intelligence in daily life.

“AI can process information quickly, but it cannot replace human intelligence,” the Pope said in the video. He added that no algorithm can pray, love, or wonder in place of a human person.

The message comes as the Church prepares for the release of Pope Leo’s upcoming encyclical on artificial intelligence, titled Magnifica Humanitas, expected on May 25.

The Pope encouraged young people to use technology in ways that help them grow in holiness rather than allowing it to replace human relationships, creativity, and personal connection.

The video also highlighted the Pope’s reminder that every person is a “unique, unrepeatable gift” whose dignity cannot be replaced by machines or technology.

The message has drawn attention online as conversations around artificial intelligence, ethics, and the role of technology in society continue to grow across the world.
