Pope Leo prays with the sick at Vatican Gardens' Lourdes Grotto

Vatican, Feb 12, 2026: Marking the World Day of the Sick and the liturgical memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, Pope Leo XIV prayed with the sick at the Lourdes Grotto in the Vatican Gardens on February 11. The Pope met the faithful following his Wednesday General Audience and reflected on the Blessed Mother’s closeness and her witness to suffering and love.

The Holy Father addressed the group who had gathered in front of the Lourdes Grotto, acknowledging the significance of the day dedicated to prayer and solidarity with those who are ill.

“It is a very beautiful day that reminds us of Mary’s closeness, our mother, who always accompanies us and teaches us so much: what suffering means, what love means, and what it means to entrust our life into the hands of the Lord.” The Pope expressed gratitude to those present for making the effort to come before the Blessed Mother for the moment of prayer.

Before imparting his Apostolic Blessing, Pope Leo prayed that the Lord would bless all who are sick, today and always, as well as doctors, nurses, and all those who accompany and care for them.
