Ahmedabad, March 6, 2025: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Ahmedabad Diocese successfully organised the Catholic Youth Premier League (CYPL) from February 22 to 26, 2025, at the Cricket Box arenas at Flamingo Cinema, Petlad. The tournament, featuring 23 teams, aimed to foster sportsmanship and unity among young Catholics from the diocese.
The 3-day event commenced on February 22nd with a prayer. This was followed by an oath-taking ceremony, during which all players pledged to participate in the tournament in the spirit of fair play.
The 23 participating teams were divided into Group A and Group B. Matches were played on two grounds simultaneously, ensuring a dynamic and engaging atmosphere for both players and spectators. After several hard-fought encounters on February 22nd and 23rd, the final match of the tournament on February 26th saw Petlad Parish facing off against Chavdapura Parish in a thrilling encounter. Demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork, Petlad Parish emerged victorious, while Chavdapura Parish secured the first runners-up position.
CYPL 2025 was a resounding success, bringing together young Catholics from across the diocese in the spirit of camaraderie and fair play. The event showcased the remarkable cricketing talent possessed by the youth and also reinforced the values of unity and sportsmanship among them.
