Patna, December 6, 2025 — A two-day joint meeting of four major Catholic bodies in Bihar — the Bihar Regional Bishops’ Council (BRBC), the Conference of Religious India (CRI), the Conference of Diocesan Priests of India (CDPA), and the Catholic Council of Bihar (CCB) — began on Saturday at Nav Jyoti Niketan, Patna. The gathering, held on 6 and 7 December, brought together Bishops, priests, Religious, and lay leaders to deliberate on pastoral priorities ahead of the Grace-filled Jubilee 2025.
Opening the assembly, Fr. Peter Charles, Deputy Secretary of BRBC, welcomed participants and introduced the agenda shaped around the Jubilee theme, “Grateful for the Past – Committed to the Future.” He underlined the significance of collective reflection and coordinated pastoral planning for the Church in Bihar.
The inaugural moments set a reflective tone, beginning with a prayer dance by the Kurji Holy Family Nurses. A short prayer service led by Fr. Bhasker Bojja followed, invoking divine guidance on the meeting’s discussions and decisions.
Fr. Anthony Swami, Director of Nav Jyoti Niketan, formally greeted delegates from various dioceses, congregations, and church organisations. He expressed his delight in hosting the gathering and stressed the importance of unity and shared mission in strengthening ecclesial ministries across the state.
BRBC Secretary General Bishop James Shekhar also addressed the participants and introduced the resource person for the meeting’s sessions.
Fr. Louis Prakash SJ led the first day’s presentations, offering thought-provoking insights on the Synodal Church, pastoral collaboration, and the challenges shaping the Church’s present and future in Bihar. His sessions encouraged deeper engagement with the principles of synodality and mission, prompting animated discussions and group interactions.
The opening day concluded with renewed resolve among the participants to work collaboratively as the Church in Bihar prepares for the Jubilee Year. The meeting continues with a strong emphasis on cooperation, discernment, and pastoral growth.
