Nurturing Family Values: The Mission Behind Goodness TV

For years, Goodness Television has served as a guiding light in the realm of family-oriented media, dedicated to delivering the transformative Message of Life. Goodness TV strives to bind families in prayer, equip parents to understand and guide their children and establish a new generation committed to truth. Catholic Connect speaks with Dr. Fr. Alex Chalangady about Goodness TV's mission to empower families, inspire joy and create a community rooted in faith, love and goodness.

Goodness TV positions itself as a faith-based channel for spiritual growth. Can you share the vision that led to the creation of Goodness TV?

Goodness TV was born from the mandate of Jesus Christ to "go and preach the Gospel to the ends of the world." We recognized that media is a powerful means to share the Gospel, especially in today’s digital age. This is why we launched Goodness TV as a Catholic Christian devotional family channel, with the aim to spread divine values to the faithful. Our vision is to build God-centered families and individuals globally, conveying the divine messages of faith, hope, and love. We are dedicated to empowering families, the core units of society, with life-giving values of love, unity, and goodness. Our programs are carefully curated to strengthen family bonds, support parents, and guide the younger generation to live with truth and justice. Our motto, "Good to see… Great to follow," encapsulates our mission to inspire and lead others on a path of spiritual growth.

How do you stay true to your mission of spreading divine love while navigating the commercial pressures of running a media platform?

Goodness TV remains faithful to its mission by relying entirely on divine providence and the generous support of our well-wishers. Our foundation is built on prayer and this has allowed us to remain a free-to-air channel without the need for commercial advertisements. We focus on enriching families and individuals with values of love, unity and goodness, rather than succumbing to commercial pressures. This approach allows us to maintain our identity and purpose, fostering a global impact by becoming a voice for the unheard and a source of spiritual strength for families. We trust in God's provision and the kindness of people who believe in our cause, enabling us to stay true to our vision while operating within the media industry.

How do you see the future of faith-based media evolving and how does Goodness TV plan to adapt to those changes?

The future of faith-based media is rapidly shifting from traditional satellite platforms to social media and other digital formats. Goodness TV has already begun adapting to this evolution by strengthening our presence on social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. We have reached a major milestone with one million subscribers on our Goodness TV YouTube channel, making us the first Christian TV channel in India to achieve this. In addition to our social media growth, we have expanded our offerings to include OTT platforms like Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Prime, as well as developed a mobile app to reach a broader audience. We have also launched Goodness Radio, an internet radio station that offers devotional music and inspirational content, and Goodness News, a channel dedicated to sharing both religious and secular news. These expansions allow us to stay relevant in the changing media landscape while continuing to fulfill our mission of spreading faith-based values.

How does Goodness TV collaborate with local churches, religious communities, and other Catholic organizations to create relevant and engaging content?

Collaboration with local churches, dioceses, parishes and religious congregations is a cornerstone of Goodness TV's content creation. Many of our programs are produced in partnership with these organizations, ensuring that our content remains relevant and grounded in the faith community. For example, our show "Chat with Bishop" allows viewers to engage with bishops from various dioceses, fostering a closer connection between the clergy and the faithful. "Kahalam" is another interactive program that features youth who are actively involved in Christian organizations, offering them a platform to share their experiences. Additionally, our program "Devalayangaliloode" promotes local parishes, showcasing their vibrant spiritual life. We also produce seasonal programs such as the Rosary, Goodness Carol Ulsavam and the Way of the Cross, filmed at various parishes and pilgrimage sites, ensuring that our content resonates deeply with our audience.

What are the next major initiatives or expansions that Goodness TV plans to pursue in the coming years?

In the coming years, Goodness TV plans to expand its reach internationally by launching channels in different countries, tailored to their unique cultures and traditions. Our goal is to continue spreading the Gospel message globally, enriching families and individuals with our life-giving content. We are also developing new programs that reflect the diverse cultural contexts of our international audience while staying true to our core mission of promoting faith, love and unity.
