THE SOUL OF THE LITURGY: MUSIC IN THE SERVICE OF THE SACRED

The gathering opened with the Jubilee Theme Song and prayer led by Msgr. Alfred John Mendonca, Vicar General and Chief Coordinator of Diocesan Commissions, followed by a Scripture reading that highlighted the Church’s mission to proclaim the Gospel. In his welcome, Msgr. Mendonca acknowledged the Archbishop and all representatives, appreciating their dedication to pastoral service. He stressed that the meeting sought not only to review activities but also to strengthen coordination among commissions in the Jubilee spirit. Commission activity highlights from June and July were presented by Fr. Arul Selva Kumar, Coordinator of Commissions.

In his address, Archbishop Moras underlined the crucial role of commissions, likening them to the dicasteries of the universal Church. He urged secretaries to embrace creative methods of evangelisation, strengthen family catechesis, and provide moral guidance to youth. Calling for faith to be integrated with ecological responsibility, he promoted the motto “Go Green, Go Clean” through initiatives such as Green Camps and Clean Campus programmes. He also emphasised purposeful and transparent budgeting, outlining the processes of planning, justification, and accountability.

Networking discussions followed, where participants identified overlaps, planned joint Jubilee initiatives, and agreed to share resources in areas such as publicity, transport, and training. Fr. Selva Kumar stressed that collaboration enhances the effectiveness of pastoral ministry. On financial matters, Fr. Sebastian Alexander, Financial Administrator, explained diocesan guidelines, urging that budgets align with objectives and that accountability reports be submitted after each programme.

The assembly reviewed the diocesan calendar, set deadlines for Jubilee preparations, and discussed deanery-level training and faith formation activities. Announcements included Jubilee celebrations in each deanery, upcoming training sessions for catechists, youth leaders, and parish pastoral councils, as well as regional meetings at KROSS, Bangalore.

In closing, Msgr. Mendonca thanked all participants for their commitment and encouraged them to carry forward their mission with unity, zeal, and creativity in service of the diocese.
